Creating a futuristic picture such as Blade Runner 2049 isn't all about location scouting and larger-than-life sets. For this movie, extremely-detailed miniature models were utilized during filming.

Above, we get a look at what all went into the building of these meticulous sets, courtesy of Weta Workshop. The final product ultimately comes together to showcase a world that is just as picturesque — if not more so — than anything that could have been replicated in CG.

3D modeling software is still used during the process, however, properly designing the scale-model cities, while the actual building, painting and weathering is all done by hand.
