K-pop boyband BTS have officially earned their first ever No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. According to Nielsen Music, Love Yourself: Tear exceeded expectations by earning 135,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during its first week.
Not only is this a huge accomplishment for the seven piece on a global scale, but BTS has also made history as the first K-pop group to secure the lead spot and land in the top 10 for the K-pop genre. Billboard reports that this is also “the first primarily foreign-language No. 1 album in over 12 years.”
Last year, BTS broke into the top 10 when Love Yourself: Her debuted and peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart and became their highest-charting album ever. The project includes their hit single “Mic Drop”, which evolved into a mind-blowing remix with Steve Aoki and Desiigner. This past November, BTS made their U.S. television debut with a sensational performance of “DNA” at the American Music Awards.
