Cardi B took to Instagram Live on Sunday to reveal that she would be writing a book about her life. The Bronx rapper said, “You wanna know why y’all don’t gotta tell my story? Because I’m gonna write a book about my life. I’ve been through a lot of shit.” At 26-years-old, the Grammy Award-winning, a multi-platinum rapper probably has enough material for several books.

She indicated her literary intentions in a pointed and public push-back aimed at those who had shamed her for her past. She also addressed the double standard that exists between male and female rappers, specifically the tendency for male rappers to be glorified for coming from the streets, while she is shamed. She notes, “I’m a rapper. I’m a bitch that came from the streets that came to the industry. I wasn’t a Disney channel star. I wasn’t a nun. I wasn’t a saint. I never was a saint, OK?”
