You don’t need to venture much further than the title of Carne Bollente‘s SS19 collection to know that, true to form, its risqué as ever. The Parisian label has become known for its sex-positive embroideries on everything from socks to sweatshirts and dress shirts, and “Welcum To Italy” has plenty more to offer in that department.
Founded in 2014 by friends Jacques Averna, Hijiri Endo, Theodore Famery, Felix Gesnouin, and Agoston Palinko, Carne Bollente is a brand dedicated to exploring “sex without limitations.” And while recent seasons have seen stocklists including Opening Ceremony, Voo Store and ETQ, the brand gets a well-deserved wider release for SS19 at luxury fashion giant SSENSE.
And while sex is a consistent theme throughout, the new collection is also an ode to Italy. “We tried to illustrate different love stories of people during one summer in Italy,” explain Carne Bollente’s founders of the new pieces. “We wanted our customers to feel like they were entering a souvenir shop in Roma or a pizza restaurant in Sicily.”
As well as venturing into jackets and spread-collar shirts for this season, also of note with this collection is Carne Bollente’s first attempt at merging their signature embroideries with graphic prints. “We had the idea of mixing embroidery and print for a while now, and we came up with the idea of using vintage postcards to do so,” its founders continue. “The SS19 theme was a perfect time to introduce it and we are super happy with the results.”
Particular highlights for us at Highsnobiety HQ include the “Everyone I Did Last Summer” shirt, a notched lapel-collared short sleeve number that sports graphic printed couples engaging in sexual acts throughout, as well as the “Womb Raider” tee featuring the aforementioned postcard print and embroidered characters.
