HBO is scheduled to premiere its new five-part limited series, Chernobyl, ahead of the nearing Emmys eligibility deadline on May 31. Subsequently, today the network shares the official trailer for the program, which remembers one of the worst man-made disasters in history.

The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, Soviet Union suffered an otherworldly radioactive explosion on April 26, 1986, spreading toxic material throughout Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Scandinavia and western Europe. HBO's new historical series details the tragic event and the efforts that went into saving Europe from the life-altering catastrophe.

Jared Harris stars as Valery Legasov in Chernobyl, the man whose assignment was to determine what caused the massive explosion. Harris is joined by Emily Watson, Stellan Skarsgård, Ralph Ineson, Fares Fares, Adam Nagaitis and David Dencik, as Johan Renck directs all five episodes.

Chernobyl premieres on HBO on May 6.
