Coca-Cola is cashing in on the Star Wars hype ahead of the release of The Rise of Skywalker on December 20 with new bottles featuring characters Rey and Kylo Ren. The beverage isn’t merely wrapped in a decorative Star Wars graphic. Instead, the lightsabers Rey and Kylo are holding actually light up when you touch the label.
The design, which utilizes OLEDs similar to your phone or TV, comes courtesy of Berlin-based startup Inuru. The smart label on the Coca-Cola bottle is equipped with a built-in printed battery and diodes that provide illumination. Human touch in turn sends an electrical current to the diodes, triggering the OLEDs. Inuru suggests that each label can be activated at least 500 times.
Coca-Cola is releasing the illuminating Star Wars bottles exclusively in Singapore for the time being. Fans in the area can participate in a “Galactic Hunt” from December 6 to 22, solving clues to secure the bottles.
