About thirty years ago, Jean-Michel Basquiat walked for COMME des GARÇONS’ SS87 runway show. Now, to honor his runway appearance, COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT has partnered up with the Basquiat Estate for the brand’s FW18 collection with a series of pieces featuring prints of the New York City artist’s original works.
For the uninitiated, the late Basquiat rose to fame through his street art in the ’80s. Originally operating under the name of SAMO, he went on to work with the likes of Andy Warhol. Basquiat’s artwork has previously been incorporated on clothing brands such as Uniqlo, Reebok, Billabong, Stance, and Sean John.
The CdG SHIRT FW18 collection is comprised of eight pieces in total — specifically tees and long-sleeved shirts — each featuring iconic prints from the late icon (including Untitled, Cabeza, and Ernok).
And while some of the pieces have understandably already sold out, not all hope of a Basquiat-infused addition to your wardrobe is lost. Below, we’ve selected a few of our favorite styles still available to buy, including two long-sleeved shirts and two tees featuring Basquiat’s Cabeza and Ernok artworks.
Ranging in price from $126 to $498, these pieces are a must-cop for anyone who appreciates Basquiat’s body of work. Whatever you think of their price point, they’re certainly cheaper than purchasing an original Basquiat painting, so should tide you over until you’re earning your millions.
