What a few weeks it's been for Cristiano Ronaldo. Fresh off winning the La Liga title and UEFA Champions League with his club Real Madrid, the Ballon d'Or incumbent has made it a hat-trick by gracing the cover of FIFA for the first time in his career.
EA Sports has revealed Ronaldo will be their global cover star for FIFA 18, which releases on September 29. Previously, CR7 was featured on the cover for PES — FIFA's biggest rival — back in 2012 and 2013.
In addition, EA has released a first trailer for the game featuring in-engine play. Titled "Fueled by Ronaldo," the Portuguese player can be seen with sweat dripping down his face as he gets set to lash home a trademark free kick.
“The world’s best player has helped fuel the biggest leap forward on the pitch that we’ve ever delivered,” said Aaron McHardy, senior producer on the FIFA series, in a news release from EA. “We are extremely excited to partner with Cristiano — working with him we learned a lot about his unique play style and what makes him so special.”
Finally, fans of FIFA 17 will be pleased to note that the popular "The Journey" story mode will be returning for FIFA 18. In the small print, EA has confirmed "The Journey: Hunter Returns," indicating it will once again feature protagonist Alex Hunter.
FIFA 18 is set to launch on September 29.
