Tune in and turn up

If there’s one thing that gets most of us through the day, it’s discovering new artists. Whether we’re scrolling through SoundCloud looking for mood tunes to help alleviate a case of the Mondays, or listening to a mixtape someone has sent our way, not a day goes by without some kind of music playing in our offices.

Since our inboxes tend to get inundated with projects from artists interested in coverage, we’re spotlighting some of the quietly wondrous musicians that find their way to us each week. These artists may not have conquered the Billboard 100 (yet) but they’ve all got something unique to offer, and they’re all worth getting to know.

Scroll through to see our 10 under the radar artists to discover this week, and stay tuned for a fresh selection next week.

A2

Where: London
What They’ve Been Working On: The BLUE EP, an album-length project that features familiar faces like 6LACK and otherworldly production.
Sounds Like: Going to a party in an abandoned cave and really spooky shit goes down.

Blawan

Where: Berlin
What They’ve Been Working On: Remixing two tracks from Lucy, subsequently creating something that embodies dance music for the the gates of hell.
Sounds Like: But actually, standing at the gates of hell and finding a rave.

Bonander

Where: Stockholm
What They’ve Been Working On: “The Oracle,” a jazzy-ambient protest epic against the alt-right and her debut single for new home-label ICEA.
Sounds Like: If you got in touch with a woodland witch to cast a hex on Donald Trump.

Elle Exxe

Where: Edinburgh
What They’ve Been Working On: “Catapult,” a self-directed visual for her self-produced single that bangs harder than a boulder thrown from the track’s namesake.
Sounds Like: If the rave from Zion, the human world in The Matrix, was led by humanity’s last remaining electro-rap-popstar.

HVNCOQ

Where: Melbourne
What They’ve Been Working On: “Blackout,” an incisive bit of socially-conscious rap that heralds promise from his upcoming debut self-titled EP.
Sounds Like: The exact kind of nuanced and balanced commentary on race-relations we’ll need a lot of in what’s sure to be a tumultuous 2018.

Isaiah Dreads

Where: London
What They’ve Been Working On: Teaming up with J Hus-collaborator JAE5 for “Real Friends,” a precursor to his upcoming South West EP.
Sounds Like: Finding a wormhole that connects our reality to the one in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and throwing an inter-dimensional block party.

Margs

Where: London
What They’ve Been Working On: New single “Nah Bad,” his second release on grime talisman Wiley’s imprint CTA Records.
Sounds Like: Sipping on a very strong rum and coke.

O-SHiN

Where: Berlin
What They’ve Been Working On: “Walking Water,” a bonkers and hypnotic follow-up to debut single “A Revelation.”
Sounds Like: Meeting a fairy-pixie creature while hiking.

Saint DX

Where: Paris
What They’ve Been Working On: “Regrets,” their debut single. Which is amazing, as this epic synth-saxophone jam has definite hints of masterpiece.
Sounds Like: Chilling with the Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland and puffing on his hookah, only it’s 1980s Miami, not Wonderland.

SASH

Where: New York
What They’ve Been Working On: A lush visual for the single “Rondo” featuring UnoTheActivist, and finishing his senior year of high school.
Sounds Like: Getting angry-drunk after a biting text from an ex, but the bar is only serving frozen margaritas.
