Sadly, the rumours about Drake’s upcoming playlist More Life dropping on Saturday weren’t true. So when is it gonna drop? For months, fans have been tantalized by the prospect of the playlist through constant delays, track snippets and OVO Sound Radio episodes that promise that it’ll drop “soon.” More Life ‘s release date is still yet to be specified – but it looks set to be imminent – and almost certainly out this month.

But don’t fret; be assured in the news that we here at Highsnobiety have taken the time to bring you every smattering and inkling of information of what we can expect from his hotly-anticipated release. Here’s everything we know about Drake’s upcoming More Life project so far.

More Life is a ‘Playlist’ – Not an Album

Rather than an album, compilation or mixtape, Drake is adamant about his forthcoming project being referred to as a ‘playlist.’ “I want to do a playlist,” the Toronto rapper said about the project, “I want to give you a collection of songs that become the soundtrack to your life.” Drake has highlighted that the style in which More Life is being put together is based on the concept of OVO Sound Radio. “It’s almost like a radio show. I basically asked myself ‘What if I did it like OVO Sound Radio but every song was a new Drake song?’ It’s more like an evolution of a mixtape. After Views, I was inspired and I wanted to keep the music going and get people inspired.” Stream the latest OVO Sound Radio Episode (38), featuring his extended interview with DJ Semtex, below.

The Tracks That Will Definitely Feature

The day before Drake’s birthday, the Toronto rapper dropped four tracks – “Sneakin” with 21 Savage, the anthemic, chart-topping “Fake Love” and “Two Birds, One Stone.” With each containing the More Life album artwork on Spotify, it’s safe to assume they’ll feature. He also dropped a surprise remix of UK MC Dave’s “Wanna Know” on the same day (which may also feature), which you can stream below.

The Title Is Inspired by Vybz Kartel

Drake is renowned for having Dancehall influences in his sound, regularly bigging up Mavado and previously collaborating with Popcaan on “Controlla.” He’s also explicitly cited Vybz as his favourite artist ever in an interview with Nardwuar (see below), with the title borrowing its name from a Jamaican slang phrase to wish someone well, popularized by the Dancehall icon.

There Will Be Even More UK Influence on on More Life

Alongside his love of Dancehall, Drake repeatedly shares his admiration and affinity for British artists. He utilized Using Kyla’s UK Funky sample for his most successful track ever, “One Dance” alongside continually bigging up a number of U.K. rappers in the past. Drake is indebted to British artists for pushing his sound forwards. That is but one example of Drizzy shouting out his faves, a list that includes former “Ojuelgba (Remix)” collborator Skepta, (whose Boy Better Know label he has tattooed on him), soulful U.K. songstress Jorja Smith and Dave, who he remixed on “Wanna Know”, Drake constantly makes sure he aligns himself with the best artists coming out of the U.K. Talking about UK music, he said, “I think the best rappers in the world are in London. I think the complexities and the cadences and the way they piece music together…I really respect a lot of London emcees.”

Giggs is the next UK rapper to receive Drizzy’s backing, and it seems that Landlord will feature on two of the tracks from Drake’s playlist. You can listen to snippets of the upcoming collaboration below, in which you can hear the 6 God’s flow sounding remarkably like XXXTENANCION’s.

The Rumoured Features

Producer and former collaborator Nineteen85 recently gave some context behind More Life being labelled a ‘playlist’, pointing out that there’s an array of features he’ll bring on the project, “…he (Drake)’s trying to call it a playlist because he has a bunch of people in a space, hanging out. He’s so aware of what everybody else is doing musically that he likes to introduce new music and new artists to the rest of the world.” Alongside Giggs, a few names that are rumored to appear on More Life are 2 Chainz, Rae Sremmurd, Bryson Tiller, Trouble and Gucci Mane – with The Weeknd the most recent artist that will probably feature on the project.

We Know It’s (Finally) Dropping This Month

Despite the perpetual delays and setbacks to the project, we have been assured that it’s coming this month. Along with Noah “40” Shebib announcing that he’s got to apply the finishing touches to the album on his Instagram yesterday, Drake has also stated that the album will land this month. Towards the end of a recent Amsterdam show on his “Boy Meets World” Tour, the 6 God made another major reveal, announcing that More Life would be dropping in March, “I know we got three more shows in Amsterdam right? But the best part about that is if you coming back to any more shows, More Life is going to be out, we can just do some whole new shit, you know what I’m saying. I love y’all for being patient with me and holding me down this week. It meant a lot.” With some Amsterdam dates at the end of March, you can be certain the most protracted saga since Frank Ocean’s Blonde is gonna drop in the next few weeks. Praise be.
