Earlier this year, Superorganism took the music world by storm with their eccentric take on DIY pop music that orbits on a global scale. Today, we’re premiering el_der’s electrifying remix of “Something For Your M.I.N.D.,” one of the collective’s hit singles off their debut self-titled album (in case you’re unfamiliar, el_der is the DJ persona of Rick and Morty composer Ryan Elder).
“I love how cheeky Superorganism is and how their songs have this message that’s kind of serious but they present it in such a fun and joyful way,” he said. “I wanted to see what it would sound like if ‘Something For Your M.I.N.D.’ had music that was as serious as the lyrics. I thought a sort of neo-80s synthwave sound could be an interesting way of ‘mooding down’ the original song without going full-on depressing. At one point I thought I was done but I woke up in the middle of the night and remembered the apple sound effect. So to add just a tiny bit of the humor back in I popped it onto the very end of the remix.”
The warped production on this version of “Something For Your M.I.N.D.” veers it into the sci-fi/fantasy territory as the looping vocals morph into a chanting meditation. If you close your eyes while you listen to it, you might even feel like you’re living inside of a video game. Keep your head up and stream the remix in full below.
