Elon Musk has apparently deleted his Instagram page amid an increasingly bizarre story unfolding between him, rapper Azealia Banks, and Musk's girlfriend, the singer Grimes. Over recent days, Banks has been writing about and tagging Musk in a number of Instagram posts, accusing the Tesla CEO of tapping her phone and having his lawyer confiscate her phone.
Problems between the trio first arose on August 12, when Banks claimed she had been invited to Musk's home. While there, Banks claimed on social media that Grimes had "coddled her boyfriend for being too stupid to know not to go on twitter while on acid." Later, she claimed to have heard him "scrounging for investors," despite his earlier tweet claiming Tesla had "funding secured" to take the business private.
On Monday, Banks tagged Musk in her Instagram story, writing, "You need to contact me. ASAP," followed by, "I need my phone back now." It was after this, in a now-deleted Instagram story, that Banks claimed Musk's attorney had paid off her attorney to "take my phone and delete evidence."
A spokesperson for Musk told Business Insider, "Elon doesn’t know Azealia Banks. He doesn’t have her phone and neither do his lawyers."
Before Musk deleted his Instagram, he and Grimes had unfollowed each other, leading to rumors of a breakup. A bizarre, somewhat graphic exchange between Grimes and Banks was shared by the rapper over the weekend, as well as the phone-tapping accusation. Musk has also unfollowed Grimes on Twitter.
