Only a week after being unveiled as the face of French hair care brand Kérastase, Emily Ratajkowski came under fire for an Instagram post in which she insinuated hair was essential to beauty and femininity.
Ratajkowski’s initial quote read: “Hair is a fundamental part of beauty, femininity, and identity. So excited to announce that I am the new face of @kerastase_official!” This didn’t go down well with fans, with many calling out the post as ignorant to those who cannot grow hair.
One user on Twitter argued that the caption was “wrongfully put,” and that the model should consider changing it.
Although the ad remained, in the wake of calls to remove the post, Ratajkowski has since deleted the original caption, replacing it with: “So excited to announce that I am the new face of @kerastase_official! Welcome good hair days!”
Kérastase has responded to the criticism by keeping the ad, but also replacing the caption in its official Instagram post. It now reads: “‘Everyone is uniquely beautiful in their own way’ — We share this vision with Emily Ratajkowski and we’re happy to welcome @emrata to our #Kerastase family.”
In other news, the mother of H&M child model responds to criticism of “racist” ad.
