Other than a colorfully-worded ballad protesting the candidacy of Donald Trump, last year was a quiet one for Father John Misty. But it seems that this period of calm was one where the singer/songwriter was hard at work. Misty has just announced his third album Pure Comedy, and with it an epic 25-minute short film. Watch it above.

Blending footage of Misty in the studio with surreal animations of his original art and nightmarish footage of Los Angeles, the Pure Comedy short film is an immersive look at what we can expect from the upcoming album. In addition to the title track, the film provides several glimpses of as-yet-untitled songs that will appear on the finished product.

Misty's last release was the highly-acclaimed I Love You, Honeybear in 2015. Pure Comedy is set to arrive on April 7.

In other music news, Chief Keef has just announced his second mixtape of the year titled Thot Breaker. Listen to lead single "Get Sleep" right here.
