Here at Highsnobiety, we cover a lot of street style. We travel the world covering fashion weeks from Oslo to Seoul, and we're there at every hyped drop, whether it's Supreme in Paris or Palace in New York. But this time, we thought we'd try something different and check out the excellent cosplayers at Cologne's Gamescom.
Billed as "The Heart of Gaming" with over 345,000 fans in attendance, Gamescom is a must-see event for any gaming fan and is the second largest in the world of its kind, behind only Hong Kong's Asia Game Show. A burgeoning culture on the cusp of mainstream integration, video games, anime and comic books are now among pop culture's most influential contributors and its biggest fans, usually those that go all out through cosplaying, are perhaps its most visible ambassadors.
And this year didn't disappoint. We saw everything from The Riddler, Luigi and Wario, and even someone dressed up as the original Goldeneye Nintendo 64 cartridge (our personal favorite).
The question at this point is not "if" but "when" cosplay will break through and become a formidable part of pop culture. We've already seen Run the Jewels collaborate with Gears of War and as the Facebook Live video from Gamescom below shows, some of the industry's most powerful figures are in fact diehard sneakerheads.
Stay tuned for more video game coverage and for now, enjoy the video above and let us know which character was your favorite in the comments section below.
In other news, The Hunger Games and Twilight are getting their own theme parks.
