It has been nearly a year since the world's favorite animated band Gorillaz announced their long-awaited return, but it seems like their new album is finally close at hand. Despite existing nearly entirely in the digital world, the band has never maintained a presence on any social media aside from its dedicated fan pages. But an official Instagram account has just been launched by the band, and its mysterious contents seem to point directly to an impending an album launch.
The band's newly minted Instagram account has been constructed as a comprehensive timeline of their history, starting all the way back to their launch in November of 2000. Along the way, it provides glamor shots of each of the four members, Murdoc, 2D, Noodle and Russel, in addition to in-depth details on their landmark albums Gorillaz and Demon Days. Suffice to say, people are excited, and the band has amassed nearly 300,000 followers in the 24 hours since its launch.
Gorillaz, the brain-child of Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, have not released new music since 2010's excellent Plastic Beach, but the Instagram timeline is pointing to this year as the year we've been waiting for. Rumors have been swirling surrounding the content of the upcoming record, but there has been confirmation of the band's frequent collaborators Snoop Dogg and De La Soul appearing in the studio to record.
