As Grimes gears up for her fifth album, Miss_Anthrop0cene, she stopped by Apple Music’s Beats 1 to discuss the project with Zane Lowe. During the interview, she revealed that Lil Uzi Vert once asked her to produce an EP for him—and then ghosted her.
“[Lil Uzi Vert] asked me to produce an EP for him once and then I sent him the WeTransfer and he never downloaded it. And I was like, ‘Dude, I spent two weeks on this.’ It hurt my feelings,” Grimes revealed.
“I think Darkseid is from that session," she continued, referencing a track from her upcoming album. "That’s how I have all these weird rap beats. It’s good when you can see when they don’t download it because then you can…get mad at them. He hasn’t done my manager and I see it. There’s one day left or whatever to download. Your files have not been downloaded yet.”
As Stereogum points out, this isn't Grime's first misfortune with a hip-hop collab. Reportedly an earlier version of A$AP Ferg and Skrillex’s “Hungry Ham” featured her harmonizing with the former artist before her vocals were cut from the final version. There was also her infamous attempt to work with Azealia Banks last year.
While her Lil Uzi collab never came to fruition, Grimes revealed she's very happy with how her album turned out, saying, "This is probably my favorite album I’ve made. Which is shocking because usually I really hate my work in the year after I’ve made it."
