Party lovers, rejoice - a new type of synthetic alcohol has finally surfaced that allows people to enjoy the effects of booze, but without the hangover that typically follows.
According to its creator, Professor David Nutt of Imperial College, "Alcosynth" is designed to mimic the positive effects of alcohol without the harmful side effects that follow like dry mouth, nausea, and a throbbing headache. “So we know where the good effects of alcohol are mediated in the brain, and can mimic them. And by not touching the bad areas, we don't have the bad effects,” says Nutt. The new synthetic alcohol concept is said to be able to also last a few hours, similar to the effects of regular alcohol.
Unfortunately, due to research funding and regulatory concerns, it may be a long time before Alcosynth ever hits the market. “It’s an interesting idea, but too much in its infancy at the moment for us to comment on,” a Department of Health spokesperson told The Independent.
While Alcosynth does have many hurdles to work through before it can ever be released, be sure to keep an eye out for any updates regarding the synthetic mix.
