Outerwear experts Helly Hansen teams up with Vail Resorts, one of the world’s foremost mountain resort companies, on a collaborative version of Helly Hansen’s iconic LifaLoft jacket. Priced at $1,052, the Vail LifaLoft jacket comes equipped with a built in 2019-2020 Epic Pass, which gives you access to all of Vail Resorts’ ski areas around the world. The price also reflects the exact vertical rise of Vail Mountain in meters.
In addition to the usual Epic Pass benefits, buyers of this jacket are entitled to guided tours of Vail’s Back Bowls, First Tracks with Helly Hansen, and complimentary on-mountain lunch at The 10th. The two colorways reflect Vail Mountain’s signature colors, while interior details include illustrations of Vail Mountain’s seven legendary back bowls.
Like all LifaLoft jackets, the piece is constructed of 4-way stretch Helly Tech Professional Fabric, feature Helly Hansen’s proprietary Life Pocket, and LIFALOFT insulation by PrimaLoft.
Perhaps the most interesting detail is the inclusion of a logo badge that pays tribute to the 10th Mountain Division’s original patch. During World War II, the army’s 10th Mountain Division used the Vail area for backcountry survival training and after the war, many of the men who trained there were drawn back to the mountain valleys. Pete Siebert, one of Vail’s founding fathers, returned to the area and in 1954, Earl Eaton, a Uranium prospector with a similar vision, teamed up with Siebert to draw up a plan for a ski resort and the idea for Vail Mountain was born.
Available in very limited quantities – 100 men’s and 100 women’s – the Vail Lifaloft jacket will be released at four select retailers across North America: Paragon Sports in New York on October 26, Sporting Life on Yonge Street in Toronto on November 2, Peter Glenn in Ft . Lauderdale, FL on November 9 and at Epic Mountain Gear in Park Meadows, CO on November 23.
