A24 just debuted a thrilling trailer for indie horror film Hereditary following its early Sundance screening. As per IndieWire, the new flick has already been cited as one of the scariest films to date with comparisons to The Babadook, The Witch, Get Out and The Conjuring.
Directed and written by newcomer Ari Aster, the film follows the death of a matriarch and the secrets her daughter uncovers through cryptic and terrifying knowledge about their ancestry. The more revealed about the family's past, the harder it is to outrun their fate.
In light of rave reviews, critics are already considering it for early Oscar nominations, with Toni Collette's lead performance being singled out for special praise. According to Variety, the film "is a domestic thriller about the scariest ghosts of all: the spirits within," while The Hollywood Reporter said it is "two breathless hours of escalating terror that never slackens for a minute."
