Spotify announced on Monday that J Balvin has officially replaced Drake as the most streamed artist worldwide on the music platform. The 33-year-old overtook Drake when his monthly listens surpassed the 48 million mark.

J Balvin, therefore, has been a big reason for the increase in popularity of Latin music. Spotify reported that latin music increased 110 percent in 2017, with Balvin’s single “Mi Gente” becoming the first song sung completely in Spanish to make it to the top of the Spotify Global Top 50 Chart last summer. Additionally, Balvin’s Spotify domination was fueled by the success of Vibras single “X” featuring Nicky Jam which has been streamed more than 327 million times alone.

“All I can say is thank you, thank you,” J. Balvin said in a statement. “I’m so grateful and proud to be the most heard artist in the world on Spotify. It’s bigger than J Balvin, it’s the movement and it’s in Spanish. We are proving that Latinos have the power to connect with an audience on a global level without having to leave our identity behind. This is an achievement for the entire Latino community. I’m so grateful to Spotify for the enormous support to the reggaeton movement.”

In a video posted to his Instagram account, Balvin said thank you to his fans and that “the world is for those that dream big.”

In other news, Tyler, the Creator has shared a new track called “Gelato.” Listen to it here.
