After J. Cole teased the imminent arrival of his new song, “Middle Child,” the track has arrived – and it sees the rapper throwing unexpected shade at Kanye West.
Produced by T-Minus, “Middle Child” sees Cole addressing a number of issues affiliated with hip-hop culture. The undeniable highlight, however, occurs after he talks about counting bullets and making a list of names of the industry people who haven’t taken him seriously. One of those people, it would seem, is West.
“But I’d never beef with a nigga for nothin / If I smoke a rapper it’s gon’ be legit / It won’t be for clout / It won’t be for fame / It won’t be ’cause my shit ain’t sellin’ the same / It won’t be to sell you my latest lil’ sneakers.”
