Last year saw the release of In Colour, the excellent debut solo album from The xx frontman and producer extraordinaire Jamie xx. Though the record is full of moments that are individual masterpieces, there was nothing quite like the feeling of putting on the first track “Gosh” for the first time and surrendering yourself to the pounding wall of slowly building synthesizers. Jamie xx understands the power of this song, which must be why he chose to release a second music video for it over a year after the album release.

The new visual instills many of the same feelings that the song does: overwhelming awe, relentless energy, and the distinct sense that something big is about to happen. This is only heightened by the video’s journey through a dystopian Paris, one inhabited by a small group of fashion-forward albinos clad in white, who are either outrunning or joining a small army of street dancers in matching outfits. It’s surreal and discomfiting, but strikingly beautiful.

This is due in large part to the video’s director Romain Gavras. His resume is filled with visuals that immediately grab your attention, with some of his more well-known features including M.I.A.'s controversial “Born Free,” her more lighthearted “Bad Girls,” and the incredibly dark “No Church in the Wild” off Jay Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne.
