Highsnobiety

Music and movie industry moneymen like to paint bootleggers and illegal downloaders as criminals, when really a lot of them are just regular fans living in obscure locations where they can't get access to these artistic mediums via legal channels. The regionalization of Netflix fuels Internet proxies. People turn to torrents to download obscure arthouse movies that will never appear in Idaho's cinemas. Most people just want access, rather than free stuff.

Use Japanese producer TOYOMU as an example: Kanye West's most recent album, The Life of Pablo, was initially only streamable via TIDAL. The streaming service isn't available in Japan, thus starving TOYOMU of Yeezy's latest tunes, a situation that drove him to recreate the entire album on his own without ever having actually listened to it.

Using a list of samples from WhoSampled and lyrics from Genius, the Japanese beat maker crafted his own version, which he called 印象III : なんとなく、パブロ (Imagining "The Life of Pablo"). Curious to see how it compares to the original? Have a listen below.
