In terms of taste, not much has changed since 2013 – Mayer’s collection still heavily features Rolexes, especially Daytona models, and according to HODINKEE he still owns every watch he discussed 6 years ago. Mayer explains that he now prefers wearing “plain Jane, non-PN versions” of vintage Daytona watches, after the Paul Newmans increased in popularity (and price).
That’s not to say Mayer doesn’t appreciate an ostentatious timepiece, though. You only need to look at his super-rare Daytona Ref. 6269 and Ref. 6270, both of which are encrusted with enough diamonds and sapphires to put any rapper to shame.
There’s also a covetable Patek Philippe Ref. 5004G with a salmon dial and specially requested luminous hands for telling time on-stage, an unusual-looking Audemars Piguet Concept GMT Tourbillon in white ceramic, and finally, a Patek Philippe Ref. 5164A Travel Time Aquanaut, Tiffany-Signed, which appeared in the first Talking Watches episode, but now sports a rare green strap. See below for the full list of watches, and head over to HODINKEE for a full breakdown of them.
