Juice WRLD's family has shared a statement following his passing. His mother, Carmella Wallace, addresses her son's death as well as his prescription drug addiction.
"We loved Jarad with all of our hearts and cannot believe our time with him has been cut short. As he often addressed in his music and to his fans, Jarad battled with prescription drug dependency," Wallace told TMZ.
Juice WRLD's family insists that while he often rapped about drugs, he wasn't promoting it, but merely shedding a light on addiction to help those dealing with similar issues.
"Addiction knows no boundaries and its impact goes way beyond the person fighting it. Jarad was a son, brother, grandson, friend and so much more to so many people who wanted more than anything to see him defeat addiction," Wallace added. "We hope the conversations he started in his music and his legacy will help others win their battles as that is what he wanted more than anything."
Juice WRLD's mother ended the statement by addressing the support they've received since his death. "We know that Jarad's legacy of love, joy and emotional honesty will live on," she concluded.
Juice WRLD, real name Jarad Anthony Higgins, passed away on December 8 following a flight from Los Angeles to Chicago. According to law enforcement, he swallowed several Percocets after learning that federal agents would be searching the plane upon their arrival.
