Juun.J's FW18 show, titled 'LAPPED', pulled out some of our favorite trends from the past seasons and flipped them on their head with a dash of the Korean designer's quintessential modernism.
Enormous shiny black puffer jackets moved up and down the body, extended to the ankle or wrapped and coiled around the neck as a kind of scarf. These cozy outerwear pieces were then styled with chunky “dad trainers” and loose-fitting pants that pooled around the feet. The result was an amorphous, yet highly-structured silhouette that gave the same kind of vibe of wearing all your clothes at once, albeit in new, unorthodox ways.
The predominantly dark collection was uplifted with accents of fire engine red, frozen yellow, and grungy flannel patterning tied around the waist. In lieu of any graphics, some words were printed on the inseam of the outerwear and printed in a black-on-black text on the hoodies was the sentence, “We are stars lapped in skin, the light you are seeking has always been within,” which appears to be a modified version of a popular quote edited to reflect the title of the collection, (the original quote reads, “We are stars wrapped in skin”).
