Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated the braggadocios Conor McGregor at UFC 229 last night, as the Russian retained his lightweight title via submission.

But as the fight ended, hell broke loose outside the Octagon when Khabib reportedly vaulted over the cage to ignite a melee in the crowd. At the same time, two members of Khabib's team appear to have entered the Octagon from outside to engage McGregor.

Officials at the event were unable to take control of the situation, and UFC President Dana White even refused to give the winning belt to Nurmagomedov as part of the post-fight ceremony, for fear that order would continue to devolve. "If I put this belt on you, everybody's going to start throwing shit into the Octagon," White told Nurmagomedov. Both Nurmagomedov and McGregor's purses were temporarily withheld by the Nevada Gaming Commission after the fight. "These guys are in big trouble" White told ESPN, referring to Nurmagomedov's camp.

The bout ended when Nurmagomedov applied a rear-naked choke during Round 4. Statistics show Nurmagomedov was attributed with connecting 99 significant strikes as opposed to McGregor's 37, as the Russian (27-0) continued his undefeated run over the larger than life Irish (21-4) fighter.
