Key Pieces: Plaid toggle coats are a standout in kolor's FW19 collection, thanks to striking, over-proportioned hoods and wide silhouettes.
Editor’s Notes: Junichi Abe delivers a FW19 collection that effortlessly reaffirms his talent for artisanal detailing, tailoring, and capacity to conceive perfectly balanced garments. The collection amalgamates a variety of Abe’s influences such as sportswear, military wear, and traditional menswear that find expression in frequently overlooked workspaces such as laundromats, warehouses, parking lots, and office cubicles.
The lookbook follows on from Kolor's ingenious SS19 collection, set in the busy streets of Tokyo’s Shibuya Station. Brilliant reds and deep purples juxtapose against the quotidian grays of office workwear. Models pose in cardigans composed of an amalgam of mismatched materials, as art handlers transfer abstract paintings in the background.
The incongruity of the the different workplaces and the playfulness of the garments in the FW19 collection position the pieces like artworks. Toggled puffers and asymmetrical jackets take on an almost surreal quality, while distressed scarfs and patchwork cardigans exhibit a sculptural sensibility towards negative space. Through placing these arguably artistic pieces within the deeply quotidian sphere of the workplace, Kolor underscores the unorthodox artistry of the collection.
