With a flourish in migration from the 1950s through to the ’80s, the city of Paris was inundated with modernist project housing that quickly became outdated. Fast forward a few decades and Parisian photographer Laurent Kronental has captured these brutalist buildings that now mostly house working class citizens of all ages.
Starting the project back in 2011, the “Souvenir d’un Futur” series explores the idea of how these neglected areas have adopted a distinctly utopian aesthetic at first glance. According to the artist:
“I wanted to create the atmosphere of a parallel world mixing past and future while consciously conveying the impression of towns that would be emptied of their residents.”
