Editor’s Notes: PUMA and Les Benjamins have unveiled their second collaborative collection, which comprises a set of four sneakers and a range of apparel. The Turkish label, founded by Bünyamin Aydin, has carried over some of the oriental motifs found on its first PUMA collection, using the patterns in small doses as detailing on the sneakers and apparel. The hiking-inspired collaboration is utilitarian in nature, featuring multi-functional bags, trail-style lacing, and water-resistant materials.
Bünyamin Aydin spoke with Highsnobiety, noting ” The Storm is, out of all the shoes that I designed, this one is my favorite. Les Benjamins version of the BAPE camouflage is the carpet pattern, so I put it on clothes and sneakers, and it’s just this minimal approach of using the carpet in a modern way, and I feel like that’s also what I do.”
Speaking on the influence of Istanbul, Aydin reveals, “Istanbul has this Asia-meets-Europe energy, it’s really vibrant and really colorful here. So for me, what I try to give, is basically the message of modernized East, and that’s my DNA and the reference in terms of visual, it’s the carpet pattern.”
