Yesterday, Lil Yachty joined Complex's 'Everyday Struggle' team to confront the show's regularly combative member Joe Budden's recent comments regarding his label, album artwork and role in hip-hop. Recently, Joe Budden took exception with Lil Boat's recent choice of album cover for his new album Teenage Emotions, which features a "controversial" cover. In one particularly heated moment, Budden asks Lil Yachty, “who was [he] trying to reach” with his choice of artwork when he used a “white girl with funny hair” and “two dudes kissing.” Yachty responded by saying he wanted his fans to be proud of who they are and just be themselves in the interview, talking of his desire to spread the message of “believing in yourself” and “loving yourself.”

Speaking a bit more about the album, Yachty said, “Honestly with this album, I felt a lot more pressure. I think it’s because this is the first project that I am considering an album. I know people are probably like, you have three other projects, which technically can be considered albums, but this is the first project that I have personally labeled one and I just want it to be good, so I approached it different creatively and I took it more serious.”

Things also got a bit dicey when Yachty spoke about being "happy all the time." Budden then attested, “You can’t tell me you wake up every day happy 24/7, because to say that you are lying.” Yachty stood his ground, saying “When you come from living in a dorm room with no clothes, no girls, no cars and then you go to having three cars, girls, and money; you can’t help but be genuinely happy that things are moving in a positive direction.” Watch the full confrontation above.

Teenage Emotions is out on May 26 via Motown/Universal Records. Watch the video for Lil Yachty's "Peek A Boo" below.
