Editor’s Notes: Maison Margiela has been pushing its signature Tabi split-toe designs hard this year, as evidenced by the style’s debut on a number of classic silhouettes. Now, the fashion house has dropped a neoprene sandal featuring a Tabi split toe. Its neoprene and leather construction and triple-black makeup give it a slight ninja vibe.
Margiela’s Tabi footwear is inspired by traditional split-toed tabi socks, which were traditionally worn with thonged footwear in Japan dating back to the 15th century. If rumors are to be believed, Nike is also looking to re-release its Air Rift, which also features a split-toe design, amid new interest in tabi-style footwear for men.
