Where the runway meets the street

Creative Director John Galliano presented his first men’s collection for Maison Margiela during Paris Fashion Week yesterday. The looks were disparate, as technically deft as you would expect, and conceptual as hell. Fusing Margiela’s famed deconstructionist designs with Galliano’s language of OTT aesthetics signaled a new visual direction for the French fashion house. This collaborative effect of Galliano at the creative helm of Margiela was further highlighted with the reveal of a new symbol, a triangle with a circle in it, which stood for synergy.

The looks included trench coats with a transparent outer layer, all-white sportswear looks (with an all-white cloven-hoofed tabi boot), brown leather jackets, oversized yellow puffers (with fur collars), pinstripe suits, relaxed klein blue suits, and a few, occasionally feathered, shower caps. Maison Margiela’s new Security sneakers also made their runway debut in a black, blue, & white colorway.

Enjoy a look at the full collection in the gallery above, and let us know if you are feeling the brand’s new direction.

In other fashion week news, Juun.J has just turned the puffer jacket into a scarf with his latest collection.
