Almost 30 years ago, Chuck Quality Goods, a hat company, was born out of a love and desire to create fantastic headwear for men and women. Founder John Putnam kept his team small allowing for the brand to stay focused on designing great hats locally in California. And like all good things, trends change, but strong core staple pieces remain.
While Chuck could have remained as it was, the brand looked for a new spirit with the announcement of designer Mark McNairy as its new creative director. And with new creative direction arrived a relaunch of the line to Original Chuck by Mark McNairy to help emphasize the change.
McNairy’s footwear, fashion and accessories work is well known in the menswear scene for having helped establish New York’s thriving movement for more than a decade, but recently, he relocated to California. “For me, the pace is pretty much the same, but the change in atmosphere has been invigorating and inspiring,” McNairy tells us. The change afforded the designer more time to focus on hats, an accessory that’s been part of his staple wardrobe for years.
With Original Chuck, McNairy plans to broaden the brand’s offering. “You know… that I have always loved hats, and I am also adding other accessories and apparel to the brand.” We are looking forward to it.
