The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) plans to file a formal complaint against both Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor following the brawl that broke out after their fight at UFC 229, ESPN reports.
Shortly after winning by submission, Nurmagomedov jumped out of the cage in a rage and attacked someone from McGregor’s camp. An all-out brawl ensued, with several members of Nurmagomedov’s team attacking McGregor in the octagon.
Now, NSAC chairman Anthony Marnell has told ESPN that there will be a full investigation into the post-fight melee, reviewing film of the event and interviewing those involved in the brawl.
As was previously reported, the NSAC withheld Nurmagomedov’s $2 million paycheck after the fight, although McGregor did receive his $3 million purse. According to Marnell, both fighters will be suspended temporarily until a hearing can be conducted.
“We will be filing against Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov," Marnell said. "Because we withheld one purse, we will have to move expeditiously to a complaint and hearing. We have held 100 percent of one of the fighters' money. Temporary suspensions will be out shortly, and we're shooting for a final hearing date in November."
In addition to the complaint against both fighters, Marnell commented on three men who jumped into the octagon to engage McGregor. The trio are believed to belong to Nurmagomedov’s camp. According to UFC president Dana White, the three individuals were arrested but released again after McGregor decided not to press charges.
"There are a lot of things here," Marnell said. "There are a lot of charges that can be brought against a spectator who came over the barricade, through the commission section, and into the Octagon to strike a fighter three times. For the record, I have a massive problem with that. That cannot happen.
"We're taking a really hard look at that gentleman. We know exactly who he is and where he is. I have to let the attorney general determine, is that trespassing, disturbing the peace? That was a serious action and it deserves a serious consequence."
