Here’s How a Professional Meme-Maker Promotes Rappers for Labels

Musician and professional meme-maker Ka5sh was recently interviewed by NBC News at a meme art show he curated in Los Angeles entitled “Peaches: A Black Internet Experience.” In the interview, he reveals that memes about rappers are often strategically created by big labels like Interscope to generate buzz around their releases:
“Let’s say Interscope wants me to make a pack of memes for a release for a certain rapper, and they want everyone to think that rapper has a lot of buzz around them and that other people are making memes about them, but it’s really just me making a whole bunch of them and then they’re being dispersed throughout different accounts.”
Artists on Interscope include Drake, Dr. Dre, Kamaiyah, Kendrick Lamar, Mike WiLL Made-It, Playboi Carti (who is featured in the video), Rae Sremmurd and more. Check out the full interview above, and peruse some of his recent memes below.
In other music news, Kodak Black just dropped a brand new track called “Boost My Ego” featuring Future. Listen to it right here.
