The Met Gala 2019 took place last night at The Costume Institute of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and, as ever, the celebrities in attendance descended on the red carpet in a variety of wild ’fits.

This year’s theme was “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay Notes on “Camp,” which documented the definitions of campness and its affiliated aesthetics.

Not all of this year’s attendees seemed to understand the theme, but did that stop them going hell for leather when it came to conjuring the most outlandish, head-turning looks? Absolutely not. Naturally, the boldest looks inspired many a meme — so many memes, in fact, that 2019 might have been the most meme-able Met Gala of all time.

Kylie and Kendall Jenner, for example, got compared to Cinderella’s stepsisters, while elder sister Kim Kardashian was placed alongside a French pastry and Kanye West — sadly passing up on the camp theme entirely — got compared to a security guard.
