Every year, MTV's VMAs grabs headlines with its star-studded guest list of A-listers, ridiculously OTT live performances and eyeball-bursting red carpet antics. Of course, 2017 was no exception, and the awards show had a strong political element to it this year, hardly surprising given the turbulent times we're living in.

The VMAs responded to Donald Trump's recent ban on transgender military personnel by inviting a selection of trans people serving in the military.

Of course, it wouldn't be the VMAs without a bucketload of ostentatious outfits. The combination of red carpet entrances, on-stage performances and after-show parties gives celebs the chance to flex in outrageous outfits.

Here's a quick roundup of who wore it best this year.
