Editor’s Notes: As part of Nike’s upcoming Air Max Day celebrations, which coincide with the Nike Air Max 90’s 30th anniversary this year, Nike has unveiled the Air Max 2090. The model is an updated version of the classic, featuring many of the same design details and combining those with the latest in Nike Air technology, including a bigger Air unit and FlyEase.
“We always imagine what the future could be, when it comes to icons like the Air Max 90. So the 90, we looked at what makes the 90 the 90, and we wanted to celebrate it in a very tasteful way,” Nike senior sportswear design director Dylan Raasch tells Highsnobiety. “It's a hard thing to do, because you don't want to mess with the 90 too much. We wanted to stay true to the original.
“When I see the 90, I see a few things. I think the mudguard is super classic on the 90, it comes down really fast and gives the speed of the shoe. I think the framing around the bag is super iconic, as far as the lines.”
