Nike has assembled a dream team of football's most clinical strikers for the release of its brand-new Hypervenom 3 football boot.

Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski, Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, Paris Saint-Germain's Edison Cavani, Juventus' Gonzalo Higuaín, and Tottenham's Harry Kane unveiled the third generation Hypervenom at an event in Munich yesterday, and all five were visibly excited about the prospect of playing in the boots for the rest of the season.

Releasing under the tagline "Cut, Strike, Score," the Hypervenom 3 is a boot specifically made for strikers — and particularly for strikers who love to make a rapid change of pace and direction before unleashing an early shot on goal. “This is a finisher’s boot,” explains Max Blau, VP of Nike Football Footwear. “Every component of this boot was built for goals.”

Following the first two generations (which you can see here and here,) this latest Hypervenom underwent a radical makeover that includes a brand-new plate and, for the first time, an all-over Flyknit design. "Players love the feel of a Flyknit," says Nike's Senior Footwear Design Director Nathan VanHook. "Whether it's a low-top or a high-top, they love the tight, sock-like fit." The design was heavily inspired by Nike's lifestyle sneaker, the Free.

The most exciting feature of the new boot, however, is the aptly named "strike zone" on the upper. It's specifically engineered to be hard when shooting the ball for maximum power, and soft and squidgy when controlling or dribbling the ball for increased control. It works using 2mm multi-layered, rate-dependent Poron foam pods, which create a dampening soft touch at low velocity contact, but become rigid when striking the ball at high velocity.

As if all of that wasn't enough, the Hypervenom 3 is also 17 percent lighter than its predecessor, weighing in at 196g. “We crafted over 200 prototypes before achieving just the right balance for what players are trying to achieve,” says Blau. “With a sharp focus on a ‘cut and strike’ style of play, we’ve built the ultimate finisher’s boot.”

The Hypervenom 3 will be available in "Poison Green/Hyper Orange" over at Nike.com on January 30.

In other news, Stone Island and NikeLab are releasing another collaboration.
