Construction on the Super Nintendo World theme park has begun. The news comes via an elaborate ceremony hosted inside a mock Super Mario level, complete with a convincing Mario and some slightly less convincing Nintendo executives.

Alongside the ceremony, we also get a sneak peak of what Nintendo intends the park to look like, with a digital trailer for the park featuring a very giddy family. We also get a first look at the construction itself. Scroll down to see them below.

The Osaka theme park is set to open in time for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, with other parks opening at Universal Studios locations in LA and Florida at a later date.

In other news, the Pokémon fighting game Pokken Tournament is coming to Nintendo Switch.
