Since 2015, Joe Mulherin has been floating at the top of the emo revival wave under his nothing, nowhere. moniker. Last year, the experimental rapper struck a chord with his debut album REAPER followed by the release of ruiner. Today, we’re premiering the music video for his latest single “Dread,” and it’s as intense as you would expect from him.

On the track, Mulherin provides an unfiltered account of his mental health struggles and the various methods he has turned to in order to deal with these internal battles while spiraling downward. This past summer, nothing, nowhere. announced that he was cancelling his headlining tour in order to “seek professional help” for his “severe anxiety and depression”—he even makes a direct reference to this specific moment in the song. Mulherin elaborated on this further in an email to Highsnobiety.

“I wanted to make a visual that represented my internal struggles that I faced this past summer,” he said. “I also want to let anyone know who is struggling with their own mental health that it gets better, but when you’re in it, it can feel like pure dread.”

nothing, nowhere. will be returning to the stage this season with support from Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, Smrtdeath, and St. Panther. The headlining tour begins on November 23 in Durham, NC. For the full list of dates and ticket information, check here. Until then, watch the visual unfold below.
