Way back in 1922, two friends had a fun idea to make a laborer’s uniform, and the result was a definitive American wardrobe staple that became known as Dickies. For almost 100 years, Dickies workwear has been reimagined by countless subcultures, but its staying power as a sartorial icon remains wholly intact.
That’s why it makes complete sense that New York-based purveyors of cool, Opening Ceremony, are back with yet another nostalgia-inducing collaboration, with Dickies in tow. The NYC fashion powerhouse has reworked the workwear brand’s iconic pieces for a new generation. The team at OC rummaged through Dickie’s entire archive and totally reimagined its most revered silhouettes, using only premium materials. Of course, everything is proudly Made-in-USA.
The collection lineup features functional bib overalls, no-nonsense work pants and traditional work shorts – emblazoned with pinstripes for the first time. OC also transforms Dickies 1922’s classic Work Shorts with a California-inspired checkerboard print.
Dickies workwear has always stood for quality, toughness, and a pride that embodies the spirit of the American worker, and its emergence in every kind of subculture, from skateboarders to Rancid to rappers, illustrates exactly why the democratic Dickies brand goes beyond the working man and welcomes subversive visionaries of all stripes.
