American color institute and trend-predictor Pantone has chosen "Classic Blue" as the official color of the year for 2020. Announced yesterday, the color is described by Pantone as "a reassuring presence instilling calm, confidence and connection."

In choosing Classic Blue, Pantone said it first examined what was going on in the world. While 2019's color Living Coral was "animating and life-affirming," according to the company, 2020's shade "brings a sense of peace and tranquillity to the human spirit, offering refuge" as a new decade begins.

Classic Blue (PANTONE 19-4052) is the color of a Pepsi can, blueberries and the evening sky in flux. Feel the calming hue in the video below.

Pantone has been selecting a color of the year since 1999, decided from careful trend-forecasting research. The annual colour, which is announced each December, is chosen based on "what is taking place in our global culture at a moment in time."
