Patta

Amsterdam’s Patta has linked with Dutch photographer Dana Lixenberg and Roma Publications for the release of a new book and matching T-shirt paying tribute to rap legends 2Pac and Notorious B.I.G.

Lixenberg was commissioned by VIBE magazine in the ’90s to shoot separate portraits of Biggy and ’Pac, both of which have spread far and wide due to their subjects’ place as icons in the hip-hop canon.

Now, Lixenberg’s book Tupac Biggie traces the history of the two portraits, from the initial shoots right up to the photos’ worldwide exposure. The images are accompanied by an essay written by Robert Kenner and a poem by Kevin Powell, with the book’s layout put together by design duo Mevis & Van Deursen.

To mark the occasion, Patta has produced a special-edition T-shirt, which is reversible and features both images on the back alongside a small Patta logo on the chest.

The tee and book will drop Thursday, October 11 at Grimm Gallery in Amsterdam, which is currently hosting an exhibition of Lixenberg’s photography. More information about the event can be found here. A further drop will follow at Patta Amsterdam, London, and online on Friday, October 12.

Patta Soundsystem’s Vic Crezée has also created a mixtape with music and soundbytes related to the show, which will be released on Tuesday, October 9.
