Peaches knows a thing or two about being provocative. The queer icon and electronic musician has been on a roll in support of her most recent album, last year’s Rub; her most recent music videos have included the likes of a lucha-libre wrestling match with Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and a pagan, satanic ritual involving copulation with a wild boar creature. But she may have outdone herself with her latest visual for “Vaginoplasty,” a Busby Berkley-style fantasia celebrating the female genitals.
Filmed at what looks like an abandoned lot at a zoo, “Vaginoplasty” sees Peaches with a squad of backup dancers recreating the kind of water-bound athleticism usually reserved for the synchronized swimming portion of the Olympics. They do this of course, dressed in imaginative costumes that look like actual vaginas, with a particular standout being the singer’s enormous, fuzz-lined headpiece. The clip serves as an ode to those who carry a vagina everywhere (trans women included) and extols the virtue of displaying this organ proudly.
