Pharrell Williams stars in a new behind-the-scenes video teasing his forthcoming collaborative project with Chanel.

The Chanel-Pharrell collection comprises a gamut of street-ready, co-branded items, including block color T-shirts, short and long robes, rhinestone costume jewelry, leather belts, terrycloth bucket hats, suede hip packs, loafers that also come as mules, and eyewear.

In the teaser, Pharrell dishes on his close rapport with the celebrated French house, paying tribute to founder Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel and former creative director Karl Lagerfeld, who passed away last month.

“Gabrielle Chanel, Coco, didn’t see partitions,” says Pharrell, whose work with Chanel dates back to 2014. “It’s interesting because neither did the brand when it came to giving me a shot. They didn’t see partitions. But they’re not afraid of these things. Just like she wasn’t afraid. There don’t need to be boundaries. As long as you can hold on to the heritage and continue to push it, like Karl always does, we don’t need walls; we need bridges.”

Posting on Instagram, the multi-hyphenate revealed it was Lagerfeld who came up the collection’s title.

Pharrell also explains the thought process behind the “5” motif festooned across the rainbow-colored clothing. “I love and celebrate individuality,” he says. “The number five has always been Coco’s number. You know, the famous N°5. Five is the number for men. It’s also the date of my birthday.”

Sure to be one of 2019’s hottest releases, the Chanel-Pharrell capsule will be available at the opening of the new Chanel boutique in Seoul, South Korea on March 28, before hitting select Chanel boutiques worldwide on April 4.
