Pussy Riot, our generation's preeminent Russian punk provocateurs, are back with a vengeance. The group has just shared a vibrant new visual for a single titled "Straight Outta Vagina," which is every bit as suggestive and empowering as you would expect.
A lack of subtlety has always been one of the band's strongest characteristics, but here it serves them better than ever. The visual depicts a badass squad of women taking what resembles an ecstasy pill which turns their pubic hair blue and allows them to be even more badass than they were before. And this does not even begin to touch on the religious iconography, toilet stall parties and bubbles that populate the rest of the visual.
Lyrically, the track is a true gem, reminding any ignorant men out there precisely where they came from, literally. Band leader Nadya Tolokonnikova spoke at length to The Guardian that the ribald lyrics serve as a direct answer to the sexist, misogynist statements from a certain Donald J. Trump, a reference point that is quite clear from any snippet of the track. Let's hope he tunes in.
Stay tuned for any information on an upcoming Pussy Riot full-length.
