Highsnobiety

On this episode of The Dropcast, hosts Jian DeLeon and Noah Thomas are joined by Kerby Jean-Raymond, designer of Pyer Moss. News flash! You’ve probably been saying his name and his brand’s name COMPLETELY WRONG. So you might learn something!

Jean-Raymond opens up about his friendship with Nipsey Hussle, and goes in-depth on why his loss was felt universally. Then we shift to other creators who are influencing the global community, first discussing two of adidas’ most high-profile collaborators: Donald Glover and Beyoncé. Sure, Beyoncé’s impact on adidas is definitely gonna be huge, but we also talk about why Donald Glover’s recently revealed sneaker is a perfect representation of his personal style.

Speaking of collaborations, Jean-Raymond also talks about his newest release with Reebok, the Pyer Moss Experiment 3, and why it’s so hard to design a basketball shoe that looks as good as it performs. Recently, designer Raf Simons talked about the “dangerous” pace of the modern fashion system, and Jean-Raymond offers his perspective on that as well. As an independent label, it can be creatively and physically taxing to churn out collections, and he provides an excellent analogy comparing it to the music industry.

Then we listen to some voicemails left by Dropcast listeners in response to our Question of the Week: What would be your dream designer x sportswear collaboration? We got a ton of great responses, so check out if you made the cut. And for a chance to end up in a future episode of The Dropcast—call into the Dropcast Hotline at 833-HIGHSNOB (833-444-4766).
